1988/2024 D & V Marine 21m Steel Explorer

M/Y Nocturn is a 70-foot high-tensile steel explorer, custom-built in Australia to a master mariner's specification and originally constructed to commercial survey guidelines. A comprehensive 2024 refit has given her the interior and systems of a current-model motor yacht over a hull built to work.

PROPULSION AND RANGE
Twin naturally aspirated Gardner 8LXB diesels, keel-cooled, on Twin Disc gearboxes. Ten knots at 25 litres an hour gives a 2,800 nautical mile range from 7,000 litres across three independent tanks. Fully rebuilt at 60,000 hours and 5,000 hours since, with new fuel injectors, overhauled fuel injection pumps and a valve and top-end adjustment carried out at the 5,000-hour mark. The cooling system has since been completely overhauled with genuine parts throughout - rails, pipes, thermostats, housings and hoses - supporting the closed-loop keel-cooled configuration. Commercial-spec dry stack exhausts on both main engines and the generators keep the bilge dry.

STABILISATION, POWER AND WATER
Two Quick X19 gyro stabilisers with approximately 100 hours, recently serviced, running on a dedicated standalone transformer - quiet at anchor as well as under way. Dual Yanmar generators, 30kVA and 15kVA, with around 250 hours. A brand-new Stella Aquarius 240 litre-per-hour watermaker, fully plumbed. 3,000 litres of fresh water across three independent tanks.

GROUND TACKLE AND DECK
Heavy-duty three-phase bow thruster and anchor winch, both upgraded with variable speed drives. Ultra Anchor paired with an automatic chain rode counter. Mirror-polished 50mm 316 stainless handrails running the full length of the vessel. A custom 2024 polished 316 stainless tender davit system alongside a secondary utility deck crane.

THE 2024 INTERIOR
Leather-lined ceilings and bespoke leather seating throughout, with custom backlit push-switch automation. Reverse-cycle climate control fully renewed in 2024 - a ducted system running on four independent air handlers, giving precision zoning to every cabin and living space.

ACCOMMODATION FOR TWELVE
Private aft master suite with ensuite toilet and separate shower. Two forward double cabins and a dedicated quad-bunk room with four full-size bunks, served by a shared forward bathroom. Three toilets and three showers in total, plus integrated laundry with washing machine. The entire sewage system was replaced in 2024 using full-size residential plumbing, new premium toilets and new pumps throughout, with 300-litre aft and 700-litre bow tanks on an Envirocycle system.

GALLEY AND SALOON
A domestic-scale chef's galley with induction cooktop, full-size oven, integrated dishwasher and an on-demand filtered boiling water system. 3,000 litres of refrigeration across two brand-new units with built-in commercial-grade redundancy. The saloon carries a 55-inch LG smart TV with Bang & Olufsen and Fusion audio.

HELM AND ELECTRONICS
Two fully upgraded helm stations, each with electronic gearbox controls and precise steering. Three 16-inch Simrad multifunction displays deployed across the stations, Simrad Halo radar, and the latest high-speed Starlink maritime hardware for global connectivity. A 4K ultra-high-definition security camera system with remote monitoring.

ELECTRICAL
AC wiring heavily upgraded throughout, with the latest Victron Quattro Series 2 inverter and integrated remote servicing capability. A comprehensive fluid and filter service has just been completed across the main engines and gearboxes.

Nocturn is a serious long-range platform - autonomous, genuinely comfortable, and rebuilt to a standard that is very hard to find in a steel hull. She needs to be seen to be understood.
